Kamal Prabha Khamesra (26-12-1944 to 27-12-2021)
Last supper-
The Passover meal which Jesus shared with his apostles the night before his death. Jesus is believed to have blessed the bread and said to his Apostles “This is my body Take and eat,” and passed wine saying, “this is my blood, take and drink”
On 23 -12-21, Kamal Prabha Khameshra, my mother-in-law and Nani to my daughters prepared the special meal of Rajasthani dish makai Dal Dhokla for our family of nine (9) persons, which includes her husband Sultan singh, her immediate children, Pratibha, Prabhash, her son in-Law myself Rajesh, her daughter in- law Sneha, her grandchildren, Krati, Savi and Anshu (All adults). The Dinner meal was prepared by her own hands, with no help from family or any maid. Normally she got help of maid or some family members but on that day none of us were at home while she was preparing the Dinner. She served the dinner on the dinning, while going 5-7 times to the Kitchen, back and forth bringing dishes & side dishes and she was the last one to start her own dinner. At 11:30pm, after family chit chatting, our family left her home to go and sleep at our flat. Fifteen minutes later, she went back to the Kitchen and, as she filled a glass of water for her husband, she collapsed on the floor due to a left-brain stroke, but still breathing in an unconscious state.
My mother-in-law gave us, her own farewell Dinner. The last supper.
This last supper will always be cherished in our lives.
We thank God for enabling us be by her bedside, when she took her last breath.
The Journey.
Kamal Prabha, the eldest daughter of her parents was the first daughter of her village to graduate from a city called Udaipur. She used to narrate to my daughters that in those days a girl migrating alone from a village to Udaipur for Graduation was, as good as, going to UK for studies in Today’s world. While her children were studying, she did her masters in Political Science and then thereafter did Bachelor of Education (B.ed). She took a job of a teacher in History & Political Science and after serving for 25 yrs., she opted for voluntary retirement, when her husband retired, so that she can give him company both at home and elsewhere. In her professional Journey, she got awards from District collectors for promoting, a saving culture in tribal girls.
We Remember
We remember how you used to welcome everybody with folded hands. We remember you for always being so courteous with your words to everybody. We remember you for always thinking good about everybody. We remember you for your special love towards our elder daughter Krati. We remember how you fought & won the battle with cancer in the yr.2012. We remember you for your decisions without any confusion. We remember you as a giver. We remember how you used to come to Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad, to pick & drop us from the Airport for 15 yrs., until you got diagonised with cancer. We remember & cherish your visits to Uganda & visits to Alibagh. We will remember your sacrifices in taking care of your mother, the promise which you gave to your father and which you fulfilled until 27-10-21, when she took her last breath on your Lap.
We miss.
We will miss coming to your home at whatever time of the day & night. We will miss your help in opening our Kitchen, during every trip to Udaipur. We will miss your Kind company. We will miss your Blessings. Most of all we will miss a home.
We Thank.
You have been a rare personality. You have been kind to every human being. You lived your life. You supported many. You inspired many. You have loved me always and taken my side, over your own children. I thank you for your last farewell, Dinner. I will always regret as I was never able to pay it back, during your life time. You deserved your heavenly journey with musical Band. Thank you.
Our Prayer.
I thank you God that although our Kamal Prabha is no longer with us physically, we know you have welcomed her into heaven because she lived a great life while on earth. May she rest in peace knowing that her soul belongs to GOD and GOD only.
